6 DIY Facemasks with ingredients from your kitchen!

If you read our blog, you know how much we love to try new products. Face masks are one of those products, and we are always up for trying a new one. However, sometimes the bath is drawn, the cucumbers are sliced, and you realize you’re all out of store-bought masks. Not to worry, you will be surprised how many masks you can whip up straight out of your kitchen. When trying out these recipes, be sure to apply the masks to your décolleté as well (neck and chest) as those areas are often forgotten and can benefit from skin care regimes as much as the face.

Here are a few that we've tried:

1. Something sweet

Mix a tablespoon of honey with a ripe banana and brush gently over your face, avoiding your eyes and hair. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse off with cool water. Bananas contain moisturizing enzymes which will leave the skin feeling softer, while honey is well known for having acne clearing properties.

2. Milky way

Mix powdered milk with some warm water and mix until it forms a thick paste. Apply liberally to your face and let sit for 10 minutes. Once you rinse it off, your skin should feel soft and fresh.

3. Something Acidic

Apple cider vinegar can have fantastic short-term benefits for tightening the skin. Mix 1 tablespoon of water and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, apply to face and let dry. Apple cider vinegar can also be used as a toner. However, it is important to note that it is not good to use this too often. We recommend limiting this process to once a week.

4. The Wake-Up mask

Mix ¼ cup of ground coffee beans, ¼ cup of brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mix into a paste and apply to a clean face. As you apply, rub the paste into the skin for 30 seconds per area. Rubbing the mixture will offer a natural exfoliation, while letting it sit will offer rejuvenating functions thanks to the antioxidant properties in the coffee beans.

5. The Inflammation Mask

Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda, one teaspoon of honey, and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply to face and let sit for 10 minutes, rinsing face with a cold cloth to close your pores. Baking soda is an excellent agent to rebalance pH levels and clear bacteria, which can cause inflammation and redness. Use this mask biweekly to fight these unwanted ailments.

6. The Breakfast Mash

Avocado! Mash and avocado and apply to your face. Leave it on for as long as possible, overnight if you are able. When finished, rinse with warm water. Avocado is rich with vitamins and gets to work on your skin by promoting collagen growth, smoothing out wrinkle lines, and moisturizing.
