Real Simple Real Good

Ingredients

Patties

  • 1 lb of ground turkey (or any meat of choice)

  • 3 cloves garlic minced

  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

  • 1 1/2 tbsp grated red onion

  • 1 tbsp grated ginger

  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice

  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest

  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp coriander

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp salt & pepper

  • Optional:  Panko or bread crumbs to help bind the patties!

Ginger & Coriander Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander

  • 1 tsp finely chopped ginger

  • ¼ tsp of turmeric

  • Optional: ½ tsp of sriracha sauce

Toppings/bun

  • 1 head iceberg lettuce

  • 1 large tomato thinly sliced

  • 1/2 red onion thinly sliced

  • 1/2 cucumber cut into thin slices

Instructions

  1. In a bowl combine all of the ingredients for patties and use your hands to mix everything together so the spies are well incorporated in the meat. Divide the meat into small sphere’s in the size of your choosing.  If the patties are not holding their shape, use the optional panko/bread-crumbs to help get the right consistency and bind ingredients.

  2. We like to keep it relatively small-medium size so that we can fit the lettuce bun easily around it (along with the toppings)!

  3. Heat up your BBQ or frying pan to medium heat.  If using a frying pan – add a bit of olive oil before grilling the patties for 5 minutes per side until cooked through and golden!

  4. While the patties are cooking, in a bowl combine all of the ingredients for the sauce and stir until well mixed. Set aside.

  5. Cut the iceberg lettuce into quarters and separate each quarter into two halves. You could also use any lettuce of your choosing (Boston being a popular alternative) but we find this one adds the best crunch!

  6. To assemble the burgers spread the sauce on the inside of the lettuce. Top with 2 slices of red onion, sliced tomato and cucumber and place a tandoori patty on top. Place the other half of the lettuce leaf on top like a sandwich or a taco and then wrap it all in parchment paper to avoid messy drippings!
