Corona Virus Shopping Guide: The Necessities

Here are a few things that we’re stocked up on in preparation for the next few weeks. Just for peace of mind. Before heading to the store - make sure you do a run through of what you have on hand and in what quantities. We hope you find this list useful - we’ve also linked to some of the recipes we’ll be making in big batches and freezing. Hope you are all staying healthy and using this time to rebalance and perhaps organize a few things at home!

BREAD

You can’t exactly count on having fresh bread but you CAN make yourself fresh bread in 3 hours using our recipe - see below. All you need is quick rise yeast, flour and salt. This will come in so handy! Just make sure you have a cast iron pot with a lid which is essential for the baking process.

CASTILLE SOAP

Castille soap is one of our favorite all in one Household/Beauty items. We clean EVERYTHING with it and it works better traditional cleaning product like windex or fantastic but it’s also gentle and effective for blemish prone skin as a face wash or as shampoo and body wash! It’s antibacterial, washes away dirt and moisturizes. Oh and it last forever and it’s affordable! @drbronner. For face washing, we dilute it with water and don’t use it everyday is you have sensitive skin.

VINEGAR

Definitely a good thing to have if you’re worried about your fruits / produce carrying any risky bacteria. Soak your fruits in vinegar over night and rinse them with water the next day for a full proof washing method! Don’t worry, you won’t taste the vinegar we promise!

TIP: Make sure you wash the outside of all your fruits with soapy water (avocados, bananas, oranges etc.) Even if you’re not eating the skin, it could be carrying the virus.

FROZEN VEGGIES

Fresh fruits and veggies (where we get most of our superfoods and nutrients) will be the toughest thing to get a hold of. The good news is, that you can buy frozen, which is both time saving and often cheaper. Here are some of our favs:

  • Mixed berries & bananas (not every grocery store has frozen bananas, so you might have to buy fresh and chop them up to freeze in bags)

  • Butternut squash

  • Kale

  • peas

  • corn

  • broccoli

  • cauliflower

Tip: You can make our butternut squash soup with frozen squash and it’s awesome. Also - you can keep making your favorite smoothies! 5 our our top recipes can be found here!

STOCK UP YOUR MEDICINE CABINET

If someone does get sick, you’ll want to have cold and flu medicine on hand as well as some nice herbal tea, electrolyte powder, and vitamin C!

PANTRY ITEMS

Stock up on foods you love that can be stored in your pantry without going bad (pasta sauces, soups, cereal, tuna, , etc). These are some items that we stocked up on in case this lasts longer than expected.

Canned goods, pasta sauces, soups, cereal, canned tuna, peanut butter, etc.

  • PASTA and SAUCE: probably the thing we stocked up on most!

  • DRIED LENTILS / BEANS (instead of canned - these bagged raw lentils tend to be cheaper)

  • CEREAL

  • ALMOND MILK: Replace milk with this pantry friendly dairy alternative.

  • ALMOND BUTTER

  • TUNA: Healthy and easy!

  • PET FOOD! Don’t forget about your furry friends of course!

  • EVOO & VINEGARS

TIP: Make a hummus dip with your dried chickpeas!

MEATS

Buy some ground turkey and veal (or meat of choice) and freeze it so you can make chili or meatballs in big batches to freeze. This way you can have one big prep day and relax.
