Glow From Within: The Skin-Loving Reset I Swear By (Especially After Travel)

I don’t know about you, but during my slower travel months—especially in the winter—I take that time to hit the reset button on my mind, body, and spirit.

After all, travel (whether by plane, ship, or scenic route) can do a number on your routine—and your skin. Changing climates, dry airplane air, and indulgent meals often leave me feeling less-than-radiant.

So when I’m home? I double down on nourishment. One of my biggest wellness goals during these reset periods is eating foods that promote clear, glowing skin.

My Skin-Clearing Grocery List

These are the MVPs I always try to include in my daily diet when I’m home from the skies and seas:

🍓 Fruits & Vegetables

  • Berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) – rich in antioxidants

  • Tomatoes – packed with lycopene for UV protection

  • Bell peppers – high in vitamin C for collagen

  • Leafy greens (spinach, kale) – full of detoxifying nutrients

  • Sweet potatoes – beta carotene for skin renewal

🌰 Nuts & Seeds

  • Sunflower seeds – loaded with vitamin E

  • Almonds – great source of healthy fats

  • Walnuts – rich in omega-3s

🥣 Whole Grains

  • Oatmeal – soothing and fiber-rich

  • Brown rice – helps regulate blood sugar

  • Quinoa – a complete plant-based protein

🐟 Lean Proteins

  • Salmon & sardines – anti-inflammatory omega-3s

  • Chicken – lean and versatile

  • Tofu – great plant-based protein

Other Must-Haves

  • Green tea – antioxidants for skin repair

  • Avocados – healthy fats for hydration

  • Olive oil – skin-softening and anti-inflammatory

  • Fermented foods (yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut) – for gut health, which reflects directly on your skin

Why These Foods Work Wonders

These aren’t just tasty — they’re functional, too. Here's why I keep them stocked:

  • Antioxidants: Defend your skin from free radical damage

  • Vitamins A, C, and E: Support collagen, brightness, and elasticity

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Calm inflammation and boost smoothness

  • Zinc: Helps control oil and combat acne

  • Probiotics: Keep your gut (and your skin) in harmony

Glow Tips Beyond the Plate

Healthy skin isn’t just about what you eat — it’s a full lifestyle. Here are my go-to glow habits:

💧 Hydrate like it’s your job – Water is the original skin serum
😴 Sleep – Your skin literally repairs itself overnight
🧘‍♀️ Reduce stress – It’s a major trigger for breakouts and dullness
☀️ Sunscreen daily – Yes, even in winter

Traveling? You Can Still Eat Clean!

Let’s be honest: cruise buffets and exotic cuisine are part of the fun. But even onboard luxury liners, I’ve found that healthy options do exist—you just have to ask for them! Look for:

  • Grilled fish or chicken

  • Fresh fruit

  • Salads with oil & vinegar

  • Steamed veggies

  • Herbal teas

Even small swaps make a difference. Your skin (and digestion) will thank you.
