Face Changing Mouth Massage

There’s a treatment you can get that people swear actually alterns the shape of your face termporaily from without surgery. Buccal massages—or inside-the-mouth massages—are growing in popularity thanks to Meghan Markle. Here’s what happens. They basically put some rubber gloves on. They put their hands deep into your mouth, almost where your cheekbone meets your eye socket and they run their fingers and pull the muscle in different directions. It apparently really hurts but also works. We’ll let one of our favorite beauty reviewers on Youtube tell you more.

Read more about how Eva Chen describes the treatment on her interview with The Cut (every Tuesday on their Podcast). Eva Chen is the director or fashion partnerships at instagram in case you didn’t know. She’s super cool!

Meghan Markle is a gorgeous woman. So when we heard that her go-to treatment was a buccal massage facial, we knew we had to try it. It's a treatment where the aesthetician actually massages inside the mouth! We went to aesthetician Anastasia Talan at Kosha Spa in Los Angeles to see what it's all about.

Microneedling

We all know (or most have have heard of) Microneedling. We wrote all about this trend 3 years ago, so you can read all about it here. However, actually puncturing the skin can be an intimidating process for a lot of us (especially when it comes to choosing the right size needle). That’s why we are fascinated by these new Microneedle patches. The dissolvable cones on the surface of the patches don't puncture the skin as much as a roller would, meaning the active ingredients won't go as deep or produce as dramatic of results — but they're still hugely promising. These patches also come infused with product like hyaluronic acid or vitamin C which is an added bonus (all in one solution).

If you go with a roller, most experts I’ve spoken to advise anything between 0.2 mm and 0.75 mm for use at home. For sensitive areas use 0.2 or 0.5 mm (lips and underneath eyes). Also - don’t use it more than once a week!

Sheep Placenta Skincare

Simon Cowell has been known to get sheep placenta facials and other celebrities swear by skincare products that use this anti-aging super-ingredient. During the facial, stem cells are taken from specially reared sheep in New Zealand and are then spread across the face. The nutrient and hormone rich placenta of the sheep is also being used in serum called MZ Skin's Rest & Revive Night Serum, which is part of a newly launched line by oculoplastic surgeon and facial aesthetics doctor Maryam Zamani, MD. "Placenta extracts have be used for centuries in Chinese folk medicine because of their ability to promote wound healing," said dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, M.D. in an interview with Refinery 29, adding that those extracts may also help stimulate your cells to act like they did when they're younger, speeding up collagen production. A bit cringe worthy for us thanks!

Hemorrhoid cream for wrinkles

We’d advise you read up a bit more on this trend before slapping on butt cream around the eyes. Sandro Bullock famously confessed she uses hemorrhoid cream to get rid of fine lines around her eyes, and even Kim K’s makeup artist vouched for this anti-aging beauty hack but it turns out that there could be certain ingrdients at play that are more helpful than others.

What we have found is this: ‘Today’s formulations of hemorrhoid creams sold in the United States contain the active ingredients phenylephrine or hydrocortisone. Phenylephrine is a vasoconstrictor, which shrinks the blood vessels. Some dermatologists believe that this ingredient is what helps puffy, tired eyes. Hydrocortisone, on the other hand, is a steroid, which helps relieve the itching and inflammation associated with hemorrhoids.’ See more details here.
