Explora I - The Ship, Her Character, and Her Soul

Some might argue that a ship cannot possess character or a soul, but I respectfully disagree. For those who know me personally or follow my posts on Facebook, you are aware of my "glass is half full" philosophy towards life. Despite facing significant challenges early in my adult life and later being diagnosed with MS, I've always maintained a positive outlook and learned to appreciate each day.

Recently, I've noticed a lot of complaints and negativity surrounding Explorer I, its management, and its excursions, both on this page and other related platforms. People have found fault with various aspects, from the temperature of the food and drinks to the whirlpool's settings. It's been quite exhausting to read it all. We're all fortunate to embark on these incredible journeys, flaws notwithstanding, and some seem to struggle with appreciating their good fortune.

People have asked why my experience on this ship differs from theirs. Allow me to explain.

As travelers, especially on a cruise ship, we have a responsibility to one another, whether it's fellow travelers or crew members. During my five weeks aboard, I encountered numerous gloomy and unhappy faces. Of course, we don't always know what others are going through, but the energy we emit into the universe often returns to us. A simple smile can brighten someone's day. I even witnessed people glaring at me while I was making a salad in the Emporium Marketplace—quite unnecessary, I must say!

As I and many others have noted, Explorer I boasts magnificent design and exceptional comfort. The accommodations, fabrics, furniture, tableware, bars, poolside loungers, towels, and even the cashmere blankets for outdoor decks are of the highest quality. Regardless of the dining venue, the food is consistently outstanding.

When I refer to Explorer I's character, what do I mean? Character can be defined as the attributes that distinguish an individual or set apart distinguishable things into categories. By this definition, Explorer I indeed possesses a distinct character. She is strong, elegant, inclusive, nourishing, restorative, and encompassing. She remains true to her mission of delivering a unique journey experience.

When I mention her soul, I'm referring to the incredible people aboard this ship because they are its soul. Many of them had never been on a cruise ship before and were excited not only to explore the world but also to have a job they loved. Some started hesitantly, others nervously, and a few were downright scared during the initial days. By day three, you could see and feel the positive change in their energy. They'd glance hesitantly at a guest, hoping for a smile in return, a sign that they had done something right, and more often than not, they were rewarded.

When I say we have a responsibility to each other, I mean it. Being on a cruise ship is an intimate experience. We share breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the same people, enjoy cocktails together, and interact at the front desks or simply while strolling around the ship.

Sometimes, as I sipped my third triple espresso shot cappuccino that Printa made for me, I marveled at the people on Explorer I who contributed to making her what she is today. They all worked tirelessly to ensure that each guest felt fulfilled and happy.

I consider this a win-win, and I can't wait for my next cruise in April!
