Serena Melani commands the stunning vessel Explora I as its captain. Her illustrious career in the cruise industry marked a significant milestone when she became the first female captain of a luxury cruise ship in 2016. Her nautical expertise was honed at Livorno's Nautical Technical School, where she gained experience as a Bridge Officer on various cargo ships. Hailing from Livorno, a picturesque Italian port city along Tuscany's coastline, Captain Melani's deep affinity for the sea is evident.

Explora I, alongside its successors, embarks on a mission to redefine luxury ocean travel. Every day at noon, Captain Melani thoughtfully updates passengers on the itinerary, weather, and sea conditions. She always signs off referring to her ship as “this beautiful lady”. Her endearing connection to the ship is palpable as she passionately discusses its features, highlighting her genuine concern for both the crew and passengers. Captain Melani's personal interactions extend beyond her role on the bridge, as she engages with passengers on a more intimate level during her walks around the ship.
